Discover Wagner Petrilli

Wagner Petrilli is a Brazilian guitarist and composer based in Toronto, Canada. He shares his passion for Brazilian music through original compositions, performances of popular and undiscovered musical gems, and collaborations with incredible artists across genres and generations.

Wagner Petrilli discovered the violão (Brazilian guitar) at an early age, and grew up apprenticing under several masters of the instrument in São Paulo. In 1998, Wagner moved to Toronto and quickly became a sought-after guitarist in the city’s Brazilian music scene. Since then, he has travelled across Canada performing with a number of artists and ensembles, and has been commissioned to compose and write lyrics for an array of projects. In 2014, with support from the Canada Council for the Arts, he released his first solo CD entitled Confissão.

In 2015, Wagner was nominated for World Solo Artist of the Year at the Canadian Folk Music Awards. In 2017, he and Louis Simão won Song of the Year at the International Portuguese Music Awards for their song Três Anos.

Wagner continues to compose and perform music and in 2020, he released a single titled Sailor’s Plea. He is working towards releasing another full-length album of original music by the end of 2026.
